Originally inspired by Brighton beach, driftwood and the Ovingdean rock pools further up the coast, especially rough weathered wood at the edges of walkways on Brighton seafront which contrasts with the smooth hardness of the colourful pebbles, which spill over the edges and become trapped in crevices. The Tangled series is of the debris left washed up on the esplanade and beach by the high tide and storms. The Abersoch series uses images from Abersoch beach in Wales and the amazing weathered wooden groynes and the effects of the rusting of the metal collars around the tops. My images are either hand painted onto silk or printed, then quilted and embroidered to create texture and raised reas in relief. giving a compelling, irresistible tactile quality to each piece. I enjoy the discord between the smooth lustrous qualities of silk as a medium and my subject matter. All pieces are one off originals.
