Recently visited Eridge Edge, near Tunbridge Wells in Sussex which is home to some of the rarest lichens, mosses and liverworts which grow on the sandstone outcrop. These sandstone rocks
which extend for some 600 metres, have 135 million years of weathering
effects upon the crust that encloses a soft moist core, creating some
fascinating honeycomb textures. I discovered a wealth of inspiration for my future work. I will be sharing news of my progress and finished pieces.
Set up day tomorrow before the opening on 29th July! Looking forward to catching up with visitors and craft lovers old and new. Last minute decisions which pieces of work to bring along and here's hoping I don't forget something, as last minute preparations take place. Michelham Priory and Gardens is a favourite venue of mine and would recommend it as a place for families with lots to see and enjoy for a great day out.
Just waiting to be stretched and framed this new rock pool has a white chalk pebble centre stage with some black seaweed which has been made from black silk fabric separately and attached onto the piece. The embroidered piece was inspired by an image taken at the chalk rock pools at Rottingdean, on the Sussex coast.
Purple Shell Rock Pool has found a new home with a lovely lady Sarah, in Hove She loved it and bought it today from the exhibition of Fiveways Artists at St. Augustine's Centre in Brighton.
I am so relieved that I have now had my old faithful Janome sewing machine repaired and serviced I had been using another back up machine for a while and its so lovely to have my old one up and running like new. Funny how one can get attached to pieces of machinery and favourite equipment. Haven't gone quite as far as to give my sewing machine a name yet ! A new lichen landscape printed, quilted embroidery has been in progress. This will be at my next show in Midhurst with the Sussex Guild at the beginning of December. See events page for more details.
